Pessada

Pessada kefalonia
Pessada is a very small traditional Greek village with an uncommercialised beach and a small fishing harbour. You have excellent views over to the beach of Lourdas which is a vast sweep of sand is great with the fantastic backdrop of the all mighty Mount Ainos. It has a great seafaring traditions, which during the nineteenth century brought it good prosperity.
Situated on the south coast of Kefalonia, and about 8 miles south-east of the capital Argostoli and just 5 miles from the airport. Strangely the approach road is wide compared to most on the island, but as you get nearer the port it narrows considerably.
The houses here have wonderful colourful plants and flowers in their gardens and growing between the stones of the garden walls. The village is quite flat and green with olive groves and small holdings. Around the area you can find small secluded beaches and if you fancy a spot of fishing then this coastline is a good choice.
Pessada is home of the Kefalonia Game Farm, here a variety of birds such as Pheasant and Quail are raised for hunters who travel from all over Greece to shoot them. Why not have a session of wine tasting at the local Winery. The Hartouliaris Winery houses a visitors cellar, where you can taste and buy the wine.
The amenities such as shops ect is limited with one or two café/bars located near the harbour. Buses run along the coast to the capital Argostoli. From Pessada you can take advantage of its ferry connection to the island of Zante. We have watched, amused by the captain the ferry who jumped ship for a cooling off swim in the waters of the port. There is accommodation in Pessada, but this tends to be villas and rooms as opposed to the larger hotels.
