Lourdas, otherwise known as Lourdata, is one of the largest bays in
Kefalonia and one of the most attractive beaches on the island with the
most dramatic backdrop imaginable. The sandy beach stretches for over two kilometers.
Situated on the vast sand and shingle bay you have in front of you
aquamarine sea, and behind you, a forest of cypress and pine which looks
to tumbles down the mountainside. Set in an environment of magnificent
natural beauty, at the foothills of Mount Ainos and in the green
luxuriance of Lourdas beach's amazing gardens, The nearby beach of
Trapezaki lies just around the bay and you can walk from one beach to the
other.
In the height of summer you are guaranteed to find a quiet spot somewhere
along this very long sweep of beach.
The water is clear and usually calm so it is great for families. It has
gained the "blue flag" and is kept clean and is patrolled by
Lifeguards.
There are sun beds and sunshades to hire if you wish, or just lay out your
own towel. On the beach there is no natural shade, however there are
places along the front where you can sit in shade and have a drink or a
meal.
Unless your accommodation is close to the beachfront, you may find walking
to and from the beach a little taxing, as not all of Lourdas' holiday
rooms, and hotels are situated close to the beach.
Journey time from the airport via tour operator coach is approximately 45
minutes, or if you are traveling independently transfers time via, hire
car or taxi should be about 25 minutes.
