Situated just a mile or so outside of Lixouri you can find a lovely beach
called Lepeda. The sand is reddish in colour and similar to Xi beach, but
on a smaller scale. You can park a vehicle just off the beach so you will
not have too far to walk. The water here is flat and good for swimming and
families alike. One thing to be aware of is sometimes this coast can
become windy, and also there is no natural shade here, except for the
small café/bar at the entrance to the beach. We visited this beach in
August, it was very breezy and warm. There was plenty of space to lay your
towel out and put an umbrella up for shade. If my memory serves me correct
there was about 20 people on the beach.
The red sandy beach about 120 meters long, The panorama is quite grand,
giving you great views of the gulf of Argostoli , St Theodori lighthouse
and Mount Aenos. Lepeda is interesting and attractive, along with its
striking red sand and rocky outcrops.
There is the Monastery and cave of Aghia Paraskevi just off the beach. It
is not signposted and can be found by walking down the beach from the main
entrance on the right. You don't see it until you are almost upon it.
Within the grounds is the monastery itself with its lemon walls. Beyond
this you will find a church built into the rocks and next to this a cave
with icons and candles. |
