The island isn't very big at all Teggsy. At the centre at the top of a mountain is a rubbish tip where the fire started. The winds blew the fire down towards the coast and totally destroyed the valley in its path. The fire was heading for the resort we are staying in but the winds changed direction but the destruction is no more than about 1/2 mile from where we are staying. It really looks like an atom bomb has been dropped there.

At it's peak, the fire was travelling at 500 metres an hour.

Terrible for the locals John - can't imagine how they must be feeling and just hope that nobody was injured... or worse.
Agree with Tegs and hope that it doesn't put people off taking their holidays there this year or in the coming years - I guess that like Kef the island depends heavily on its tourist industry and the last thing the people will need is for that to take a dive.
