    Default samos experts please look

We are thinking of trying out this island in may, staying in the area Kambos / Votsalakia. We like the look of a place called the Evangelistra, anyone got any comments on the location or have you stayed at this place. Ive looked oh hols uncovered and the report's looks good but a little out of date.

    TIA

    Hi Andy

Sorry missed this post somehow. We went to Samos 2yrs ago. It depends on what sort of a holiday you like. We didn't stay in the Kambos/Votsalakia area but did drive through there on our way around the Island and personally it wasn't for me. I found it to be vey touristy and full of bars etc which isn't quite what we like. We stayed somewhere really quiet but had to drive every out every night for something to eat. We spent most of our time in Kokkari which if we ever returned is probably where we would stay.
We stayed in the tiny resort of Ag.Nikolaos which is on the north coast of Samos which is about 5 minutes away from Karlovassi and it was a 20 minute drive every evening into Kokkari. If I could have moved where we stayed to Kokkari it would have been ideal. The link below is where we stayed

Thanks for that Jan, to be honest we picked this resort because all the brochures say its relaxing & peaceful :-/ How big is the resort in comparison to Skala in Kef Jan?

    Cheers

Andy the opinion I am giving is from just driving through Votsalakia a couple of times on our way around the Island so can't comment on what it is like to stay there. As you can see from the link I sent you of where we stayed it was very picturesque and set away from any main resorts which is what we like.

It was definatley bigger than Skala and runs parallell to the sea not away like Skala does, I didnt personally find it very pretty with line after line of hotel and bars and in my eyes very busy, might not be busy for some people but it was for me and very commercialised. If you like long sandy beaches you wont be disappointed as the beach was very nice. I have tried to find a couple of photo's for you but don't seem to have any.

The resort of Kokkari is very nice also Pythagoria, I wasn't so keen on Samos town which if you like nightclubs or have teenagers that do you will find plenty there.

No Andy we didn't although we did consider doing it at some point during the holiday and never got around to it.

One thing to remember is that besides paying for the trip across to Turkey you then also have to pay a Visa charge to enter the country which if I remember right was £10 per person when we were there.

Just found this picture taken from Posidonio showing how close Turkey is to Samos, although it does take around 2hrs to get to Ephesus
