I know that Jan has gone but I think that the tourist trade on this island is going to go up over the next few years like it did on kef because of the new film which is out next week called Mamma mia. Watch out lads you could be getting married on the island aswell.

Jan has indeed gone in fact this is me here....speaking to you from the internet cafe at the end of the harbour front, scorching temperatures
32 deg in the shade and reached 40 deg on Thursday.

Rich, we were last here in 2005 and it was indeed a very quiet island. Today I would still say it is very quiet but not quite as we remember. There is plenty of tavernas. bars etc but still very peaceful.

We have been to all the locations of the filming of Mamma Mia but apparently the goverment demanded that all the location props were removed after the filming but still worth a visit, will post pics when we are back. We all went to see the film in an open air cinema.

Well can't sit here all day while the sun is shining (we hear you are having a drop of rain) I think the island is running short of Mythos but they should recover when we leave on Friday.

Next to Kefalonia, i would say that Skopelos has to be my next favourite island. It has the same laid back atmosphere and will never become too touristy.
The government offered the island an airport of their own but they refused it saying they didn't want to become like Skiathos!
Yes, Skopelos has changed over the years but in nowhere near like the place of other islands. This is really like paradise!
I paid a visit to it last year while in Skiathos and it still has it's spell cast on me. I must go back!

I went to to see the film at the weekend and it was fantastic, the island looked beautiful.

I read that some of the filming was actually done in Pelion. But they are keeping quiet about it! Possibly very sensible.

We have just returned from two glorious weeks on this beautiful and picturesque Island. The first thing you notice as the ferry pulls into the port are the lovely traditional whitewashed houses. The town has so much charm and appeal where you can easily get lost in the steep, narrow and cobbled back streets where the views are spectacular. When we were last here in 2005 on a day trip from Skiathos I thought it would be too quiet to spend two weeks holiday but having returned it is busier than I thought it would be but not in a manic way. Most of the people taking their holidays there seemed to be Greek people from other islands. It is too soon to say whether or not the Island will be spoiled by tourism following the success of the film Mamma Mia (which we went to see in an open air cinema) but as John says the Island does not have its own airport so hopefully that will keep some tourists away. We have all said that we are glad we decided to visit the Island now instead of in five years time. Most of the filming was done on Skopelos and some on Skiathos and as stated in the tiny village of Damouchari in the Pelion. Sophie who owned the apartments we stayed at doesnt think it will change the Island too much as she thought they were keeping quiet about where it was filmed, but the credits at the end of the film thanked the Municipalities of Skopelos, Skiathos and Mouresi Magnesia (Pelion).

John, we returned to Skiathos the day before we flew home and spent an evening with friends and I found it to be too busy after spending two weeks on Skopelos which like you is now my second favourite Greek Island.

Jed, the hotel you were looking at (Skopelos Village) was two away from us looked really nice and it is where Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Julie Walters all stayed there while they were on the Island filming.

Kerrie the couple of pics attached (hopefully) are of where some of the filming took place so you should recognise them. Success..lol. the church is where the wedding took place, I managed to walk all the way up there in soaring temperatures!
