This will be our 3rd visit this september. Each time we have stayed at the hotel pericles in sami. This hotel and sami have got mixed views on the internet. But each time we have found it to be very good.
Firstly the hotel : The hotel is surrounded by the beautiful mountains, in a peaceful setting. The bar, reception and sitting area is well maintained, from this area corridors take you to the various levels of different rooms. The rooms are fairly basic, but well served daily and well cleaned during your stay, some views our out to the back of the property, not the best of views but you can see far up into the mountains, also rooms facing onto the car park also again you have a mountain view. I would personally say the best view would be looking out to the pool direction, where you can see down into the town of sami and beyond to the sea.
The bed and breakfast option is very good, with servings of bread, eggs, cheeses, ham, greek yoghurt, and cornflakes. Also you can have a cooked breakfast but at a charge.
The staff at the hotel pericles, the times we have visited have been lovely. The lady on reception "nina" is wonderful (she gave our daughter some dresses), on both occasions we have had different barman this seems to be the case during the season. Then the managing director, unfortunately gets critized a bit, hes a fairly serious man, but we have found him to be extremely nice (he doesnt like drinks to be sold after midnight, just because noise travels and doesnt want complaints from others staying at the hotel).
On both occasions we have had different travel reps, firstly sarah who had been on kefalonia for a number of years, who was friendly and full of knowledge. Then last year we had mary who was full of life.
During your stay, there is usually a quiz night and karokee.
We hotel is available by thomas cook, i feel that it is very good value for money. We look forward to our next holiday in september back at the pericles.
When i get some more times i will report about staying in sami
many thanks

I know this a bit off topic (forgive me Father Phil), but the local laws for Kefalonia do state that alcohol should not be served after midnight, nor should there be loud music.
This is upheld by the older accomodation owners and the managers of bigger hotels, they are most at risk. But, the younger owners of downtown bars and disco flaunt the law and mostly get away with it.
Surprisingly this is the Greek law that all but shut down Falaraki in Rhodes a few years ago when they had lots of problems.

Drinking laws in Kef are NOT off topic - but if it is *local laws for Kef* how does that affect Faliraki? Is it a National Greek Law or a local Kef law?

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

When we stayed at the odysseus palace down in Poros, the same rule applied. Very lively bar until midnight then everything shut down. as you say Jed, very easy to get a drink later if you want. But good for them that they consider the other guests in the hotels etc. There is nothing worse than trying to get some sleep when there is loud music blasting away below you. I know, i've suffered this first hand and i suspect many people on here have too!
