Didn't I? Got it at a knock down price from timemachines.com! They've rolled back the prices to 1872 as only they can.
Whoops - of course I meant 2007 for both dates - I'm always thinking ahead so much so that it is like 2008 is over for me already planning wise I'm well into 2009!
hehehe... I was wondering how time could fly so quickly! You practically ended my holidays!!
Thanks for your post, I agree it's not the same for everyone and sometimes no two times are the same. We also used to stop by there and to enjoy the sunset with some drinks and, as we had sent friends there to stay 2 years ago; we heard only good reviews about the people running the place..
I think they are paying more attention to the restaurant now than to the rooms... it must be more profitable... who knows...
I heard some gossip from locals in Lixouri about a weird Greek couple from Athens who went to Niforos and left because there wasn't any access to the internet... (that would be us)... yes, that was it... the internet... we chose a remote place on a mountain in the middle of nowhere because we wanted access to the internet... lol. Wonder who got that rumour out?
didn't you know they are the main drivers for people visiting Kefalonia? Access to the internet and satellite TV - don't tell me you were put out about not being able to get ITV for Coronation Street?! I've heard people complain about that before! I was in Poros earlier this year and a family came and sat in Pantelli's at the table next to us for lunch and during the hour they were there they managed not only to eat and drink but to complain that they didn't have English channels in their villa, there was no phone, no internet, the shops were not the same as back home and finished off by complaining about the mountains being in the way of getting anywhere! We couldn't help but laugh, we could just envisage their recommendations on their holiday satisfaction questionnaire including bull dozing Mt Aenos to make it a bit flatter!
It's funny how rumours run rife and people do get misunderstood, we've been the victims of that in the past, the island is quite self-contained and people know people, it's amazing how word gets around. We had an unfortunate experience last year and we were most suprised by the comments we heard from strangers about the incident that happened to us - surprised they even knew and more suprised by how wrong their information was. Chinese whispers come into play I think, I don't think it's malicious at all. Sometimes people pick up on one part of your complaint - probably the most insignificant part - miss the main issue and magnify the petty little thing and that makes you look like you were being petty yourself. Such is life.
I'd still recommend a drink while watching the sun go down at Niforos though it is splendid. I guess sometimes things are great until you jump right in - it might look appealing to some people to live in my house but after a day or two they would want to run out screaming!
ahahaha... the couple you described must be totally miserable!!! I had a similar experience once when I hadn't been to the movies (and practically for a night out for three long years because I had no-one to mind my son) and when I finally did, I had the fortune to sit next to a lady that kept complaining and whining miserably throughout the whole movie about everything!!! She didn't like the cinema theatre, she didn't like the movie, she didn't like the chair infront of her, she stumbled upon something and hurt herself (although I witnessed it and she didn't get hurt and shouldn't be where she was in the first place), bla, bla, bla.
I sat patiently for about an hour and couldn't take it anymore and turned round to tell her that it was just my luck to be stuck in the house for 3 years and end up in the cinema right to her to make sure I never go out again! hehehe... she stopped fortunately.
So, yes, back to our topic, I would also definately recommend having some drinks at Niforos. I still find it a hot spot to watch the sunset... pity I won't be welcomed there in the future![]()
