    Default Best Greek beer?

No doubt, the title of this thread will attract zillions of hits

Now I got your attention, what do you think are some of the best tasting beers that can be found in Kefalonia? I'm not a beer expert by any means but these are some of the brands I've discovered and enjoy frequently.

    - Mythos. Popular beer with the locals and visitors alike. Crisp, refreshing with rich aroma.
    - Bios. New Greek beer, probably too bubbly and light for some but tasty if you like fruity-type beers.
    - Craft. Greek handcrafted beer that comes in 5 different flavours. Pilsner, Smoked, Weiss, Athens, Red and Black. Weiss and Athens are my personal favourites.
    - Fix. Popular Greek beer. A bit thin and light but quite refreshing on a hot day.

    Beer experts over to you...!

Pete says "Best Greek Beer" is an oxymoron.
When I read out the list, I didn't get past Mythos before he collapsed into laughter

No offence, but he's a real ale fan and spends fruitless hours searching for something he wants to drink on Kef. Good job he really likes the local wine.

Most beers and wines enjoyed on holiday in Greece never taste as good back home in the UK. I much prefer draught beer to bottled. Of the bottled beers Mythos red is very good in small quantities! Fix, Amstel and a few others are also pretty good. Most cold beer in an iced glass are very refreshing on a hot day even if lacking in taste.

I reckon a lot of the pleasure in enjoying local beers is the ambience and climate. The same applies to the wines.
Many of the Robola wines are good, but don't buy old stock which is sometimes displayed in the mini markets - It doesn't keep.

I'll be going out tonight for some proper beer .............. no idea what it will be **.......... a choice of over 5 different guests beers each week + Abbot and TT.

** If any of you are on here after 11:30 tonight I can report back .

The above is just my own opinion. More than 50% of men in the UK now drink lager so maybe they are the people to ask.

Three pints of Village Idiot (don't ask who brews it) but it was excellent

    Hi Stevie,

Fix was the No.1 Greek beer back the 80s but following the entry of several foreign beers (Amstel, Heineken, Carlsberg, etc) the company went into liquidation. The brand was resurrected around a year ago but I cannot comment on the beer's taste before and after as I was around 8yo all those years ago! The new version is attracting an increasingly younger crowd.

Being considerably older than 8 in the 1980's I can give you a first hand report on Fix.

At the time it was referred to by holiday makers as 'gnats piss'! It was very pale and extremely fizzy! Compared with the only other option at the time - Heineken - it never stood a chance. Then along came Amstel and Fix just rolled over and died.

I was surprised to see it again this year and thought I'd have a go. It was very similar to Mythos, not too fizzy and definitely best served ice cold!
