Default Driving to Katelios from the airport

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post to the forum.
We are arriving in Kefalonia on Tuesday and have hired a car from the airport. looking at the directions that our tour operator has given us i am a bit concerned about that after 1.2km's it says 'turn left up the hill sign posted LAKITHRA then continue up the hill until you reach the stop sign, bear left up to the top of the hill' and then in brackets it says (please note that the road is quite steep and you may need to turn off the air-con in your car to give the engine more power).

Is this road really that steep or do you think they are exagerating?

I think this is the short cut route, not the way the coaches go. It is quite steep and its not easy to get a run at it, so best to turn the aircon off. I always used to give the air con off and on control over to the co- pilot, I would just shout more power and she would turn the air con off.
I do have turn by turn directions from the airport in a word doc if you need them just pm me with a email address

    Hear how it goes

    Hi Tony

    Welcome to the board.

Those instructions sound very familiar - I assume you are on a Thomson holiday? If so you will probably have a Europcar hire car?

This will most likely be a Hyundai Getz or i series car. They all have plenty of power to get up that hill and you shouldn't need to turn the aircon off. The Europcar office is within the airport building, but you can wait for ages in a queue - the staff are very slow at processing the paperwork. I'll give you a few tips if you let me know how many people are in your party and how many you want to name as drivers.

    Hi Phil,

We are with Villaplus but flying with thompson. Our car hire is with CBR Traveli, apparently their office is located outside the main building.
    cheers

    Hi tonyy
I hired from cbr at the airport last year, having booked over the Internet. They made a big thing of undermining the Colision damage waiver on their "standard" booking and wanted more money for "Full" CDW, and even then they wanted me to pay a €70 excess. just warning you that the deal may not be as got as they've led you to believe.

hope you have a good holiday.

Did the same with them this year manged to negotiate a deal for SCDW before we went but still does not cover for lost keys and tyre damage, these again are offered at extra cost. Phil sent some information on yearly insuyrance for use with hire cars that was cheaper then CBR quote and covered keys etc. i will find it later if i get chance.
By the way CBR office is right outside airport abpout 100M from terminal. if you are on morning flight often no one there when you drop car off and no post box, i do the usual thing leave keys above driver side sun visor and door unlocked. Not heard they lost the jeep yet.

    Hi Phil,
So, if i buy this policy I won't have to buy any additional policies when I get there?
On my car hire voucher from villa plus they mention that the hire company can provide additonal insurance 'Seguro Relax' but this is optional.
