    Default Kelari tavern

    Hello,

I have just joined this forum and am loving it! I hope some one can help me.
I am getting married in Skala next June and having my reception in the Old Scala Kelari Taverna, has anyone been there and could give me a description of the place and food? I understand it is in a lovely location. We came to Skala 7 years ago but did not go up to old Skala.

    Thanks.

Hi Therese, welcome to the forum and i'm glad you are enjoying it! It's several years since i was last up in old skala and the villas were still being built with no sign of the taverna you mentioned!
However, you have picked a lovely place to have your reception. There is bound to be someone along shortly who will be able to answer your question..............unfortunately, it isn't me!
Please feel free to ask any more questions you might have.

    Hi Therese

    Welcome to the messageboard.

We had a lunchtime snack and and evening meal there last May. I'll post some photos tomorrow if I can find them. The food was excellent and reasonably priced considering the stunning location. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The food is mainly traditional Greek. I am sure if you contact them a few days before the reception they will do their best to serve up exactly what you want.

The taverna was opened about 2 years ago. It is about 3 or 4 miles from the centre of (new) Skala and the narrow road is macadamed. Car parking is fairly limited up there. There are two outside seating areas, on 2 levels, with stunning views down to Mounda Bay and Zante. The top deck has a canopy.

I'm off out in 5 minutes - boys night out!! I'll write more later.

    Hi Phil,

Did you have a good night out? It would be great if you could find your photos, I have seen a couple that are on the website and the view does look great.

I had a great night followed by 2 very busy days!
I haven't found many photos yet, but I have uploaded a few from May 2010. Look in the gallery for a new album of Old Skala. I'll search for some more later.

    Hi Phil,
Could you tell me if this taverna is wheelchair friendly? My dad might be coming to the wedding, he can walk a short way but mostly in his wheelchair.

    Thanks

    Hi Therese

I have just returned from Kef today. We drove past the Kelari last week but it was closed for the season!

The main access to the taverna is from the top road which is adjacent to the top outdoor (covered) dining deck. There are about 2 or 3 steps (?? - my memory not too good!) from the road down to the top deck. I would say it isn't wheelchair friendly, BUT if he can walk a few yards and negotiate 2 or 3 steps he should be fine. HOWEVER, the toilets are inside down a long flight of stairs and that would probably be a very inconvenient convenience (sorry for the pun).

    Therese Hi,

Slight delay here, I went to Kelari Taverna last year and loved it. I hope the wedding went well? I wonder if you could help me, since going to Old Skala I have since got engaged. I would like to have my wedding reception at Kelari, could you offer some advice, tips... anything... Would be really interested to hear your thoughts.

    Thanks, Cheryl

    Hello Cheryl,

Just seen your question! Our wedding was fantastic, better than I could have wished for! We had 'mygreekwedding' planners Teresa and Kostas organise everything for us and they did a brilliant job. I think it was the first time they had a wedding on the beach in Skala and reception at the Kelari...we were emailed the menu and we chose to have a meze and then chose a main, but we were so full after the meze and could not eat all of our main... the food was also the best we had in Skala...mmm I could eat it now! We also asked to have a Pavlova instead of a wedding cake which Teresa organised with their local baker and was the best Pavlova we had ever tasted.

We were so glad to have chosen the Kelari as you know the view is out of this world!

Teresa arranged for a mini bus to take us all up to the taverna..15 of us in total..and then collected us at midnight.

Anything else you want to know just ask.

    Therese
