    Default First Time Visitor Vlachata

    Hi All,

This is my first post so bare with me, me and my wife are just about to book a holiday at Saulas Studios which I believe is in or near the village of Vlachata, apart from the tour operators website I cannot seem to find any info about the accomadation or the area that it is in, I am not too good with walking any distances at the moment and a little concerned that we might be a little isolated and also the "Hill" that keeps cropping up on some posts are there any bars, tavernas or mini-markets in the area, I am also going to book a hire car not sure for a week or our 2 week stay as we want to try and see as much of the island as we can, any help or advice would be well received.

    Thanks
    Mick-c

    Hi Mick

    Welcome to the board.
I don't know the studios you mention, but either Bell, Hugh, daffyd or Teggsy might reply soon ...........

Vlachata is a village on the main coastal road above Lourdas Bay and with lovely views in many places. It is a good central location for touring the island, BUT, anyone who is young and able-bodied will struggle with the hill in the heat of summer so I am sure walking back from the beach etc will be a problem for you. But, if you have a car for the duration of your holiday I am sure you will have a great time.

    Mick,

I don't know the Saulas Studios, but if they are on or close to the main road in Vlachata you will have no difficulty getting to the shops. Several traditional Greek places to get a drink and something to eat - if you want a good Greek pizza, visit Sourokos and meet Spiros - a real character!

To get around or to the beach you will probably need a hire car. There are several companies who operate in the area, but I would recommend a friend of many years, http://www.neptune-rentacar.com who will deliver the car to you.

Others on the board will be able to offer help and advice. You are going to a lovely area of the island (but then I am biased!).

Hi Mick. I haven't heard of these studios either. What tour company are they with. If they are anything to do with Manos or Thomas Cook I will be able to find out for you. I agree with Dafydd about the car and also about the area you may visit.( I too am biased)
    regards Bell.

Saulas Studios is quoted as being in Lordas and is with Thompsons. It's actually about 1 mile up the hill from Lordas beach.

You'll find some reviews at this link

Thanks for all your replies, I have seen the reviews on the Thompson site and they all seem positive, I just wanted to get a bit of background info about the area as I said I am not up to walking any distances at the moment and was a bit concerned we might have been a little isolated, I have been on the google earth and the area seems quite built up, so as long as there are some bars and Tavernas then we are sorted I will go ahead and book it, I think we will probably get the car for 2 weeks if anyone has any advice on must see places then please let me know, even if its places you wanted to keep secret I promise I wont tell anyone!!!!!!! Thanks again for your help

I am sure the accommodation will be fine and as others say it is in a great location in Kefalonia. One thing i would suggest for more background reviews is to check out trip advisor it provides a more independent view of things.
If i get chance later i will link into a couple of previous threads about must do trips.

    Hi Mick,
welcome to the board, hope you have a great holiday.
the studios are right next door to Petros supermarket on the main bit & have a great pool. You could'nt get a more central location right in the middle of bars & tavernas. You also have Marias supermarket almost opposite. As for seeing the island the best advice is get yourself a decent map & just head off & explore. Myrtos beach, Assos, Fiscardo & Argostoli are a must.
    Enjoy

Thanks Shaz, someone who knows that the apartments exist, was getting worried for a bit? apart from the Thompson reviews can't seem to find any info about them anywhere, all booked for the end of August so just need to find a good deal for a car and all sorted, its our first time in Kefalonia but people we know have said it is very beautiful place so really looking forward to going, are the studios easy to find from the main road from the airport.
    Thanks

    Mick,
    Just returned on Tuesday night.
While I was there I went to check where the apartments are - right next to Petros Supermarket - so very easy to find.
The pool looks good and they have a pool bar, so everything you need day-to-day is close at hand.
I already made a suggestion above for car hire.
If you want a taxi from the airport to the apartments, contact Makis (he lives just around the corner) - his mobile number - (0030) 6972336095.

    regards,
