Thassos 2010

We are staying in Skala Prinou for our first visit to Thassos in August and wondered whether there were any boat trips at all from there.

you can get a boat across to main land Kavala nice to go up around the old Town. You can get boat Trips from Thassos Town around the island was only 20€ for a whole day including Barbecue lunch last year. Dont book with Rep. We have booked a car for 7 days this time and will visit more villages and beaches.
Reccomend Aliki abousolutly lovely beach and loads of walking near by of old ruins and old Marble port.
We are going 30th May and stopping at Socrates as thats the only hotel Thomsons do there its right on the beach and there are photos on here.take a look.
Also Jan who uses this forum is of to Socrates end of June.

Thanks for the reply. We are staying at Socrates and it looks just the job, nice and quiet which is how we like it. Is it easy to get to Thassos Town from there. I think there is a bus service, but not sure how reliable it is? We may hire a car for a week perhaps to get around the Island.

Bus service is very reliable and regular in to Thassos town you walk 200yards down to Port and buses pick up there.
By August the service is really good.

Kazzie this will be our first visit to Thassos this year and we are really looking forward to it We can both bombard Sue with questions when she gets back..lol

well been back nearly a week from Scala Prino, we had a fantastic time, Hotel just the same really clean and very friendly.
Socrates sunbeds on beach now have lovely comfy cushion and for €5 a day for 2 beds and brolly good value. Beach is smaller but its nice not to have to walk on hot sand. Sea was warmer than last year as well.
we hired a car for 7 days and went all around the island, Aliki beach was still stunning and very hot when we spent afternoon there. walked all around the ruins and sat down by the old quarry port again. Thassos seemed quieter this year. but they were hoping things will pick up. Thassos town went to see Tracy and Alan who are running a waterfront snack bar there 1st year and was lovely to have a pot of tea instead of a cold drink, although usaual Frappe and beer on sale and her home made pies etc were delicious
Tavernas were very good and prices not gone up a lot gave dessert free home made cake or yougurt and fruits in honey.
we even had complimenatry drinks and coffee. Most nights spent less than €25 that included drinks and starter.
we went on a boat trip again and saw the Dolphins of Golden beach although not near eneough for my camera to pick up and for a full day out plus barbecue lunch was only €25. Reps wanted alot more for similar thing.
Thomsons transfers from airport to ferry terminal and apartments again was faultless and very smooth running no hanging about, and cases arrived before us. which is really good. The flowers were in full bloom and loads of flowers all along the road side. Bright yellows and purples and wild poppies.
weather first week was mixed few heavy showers but 2nd week got hotter and hotter.
We had a great time visiting Tavernas across other side island in Scala Potomia where we spent our 1st visit to Thassos everyone so welcoming and after lots of Free Ouzo to celebrate cant remember anything only getting out of car at our hotel.
Really fallen in love again with Thassos and Malc says we are definitely going back next year. I want to go back but also want to try some more islands so will have to wait and see.
So now on countdown for Kef only 10 weeks to go.

Glad you had a good time. I wondered where the boat trip to golden beach you mention goes from. We are staying at Socrates Plaza in August (just back from Kef yesterday) and the trip sounds just the kind of thing we are looking for, as we stay well away from the rep trips. Also are there any tavernas much like Apostolis in Skala? Hope you don't mind me bombarding you with questions, but sounds like our idea of holidays are the same!!!!
