First visit to Kefalonia - Lourdas
Hi,
My husband and I have booked a 2 week holiday to Lourdas for September this year with our girls aged 4 and 2, after booking and reading various different web-sites we are a bit concerned that we have picked the right destination.
I would be really grateful if you could answer some questons that I have to either put my mind at ease or we have the opportunity to change our destination before paying the balance of our holiday in a few weeks.
My main concern is the weather in Kefalonia in September, a few threads I have read suggest that it can be stormy and one even had 2 weeks very bad weather, I know we cannot guarantee the weather anywhere but the thought of 2 young children stuck in a villa isn't very appealing.
Is Lourdas a sandy beach suitable for children?
We are staying at the Kerkyra villa, does anyone know if this is a good location.
Thank you in advance for any advice that you can give me
Tracey

Hello.
I have stayed in Lourdas a number of times in September (normally the first two weeks).
We usually have lovely sunshine and the Temperature is in the High twenties and often into the low thirtys.
The weather in the last two weeks of the month can have the odd thunderstorm and rain, but the weather is still warm and usually sunny.
True you can get wet weather anywhere in september, I remember torrential rain in Crete, Turkey, Spain, Italy and France during September.
The beach in Lourdas gets very sandy away from the main area where it has some coarse sand mixed into it. There has been a machine down recently to clean the pebbles and any seagrass etc away.
The sea in september is lovely and warm and is fairly shallow until you wade out a bit. (we always swim in the Kanali or Trapezaki areas).
I believe the Kerkyra villa is near the Lara hotel a bit further along the road. It is not far to the seafront which is down hill and about 300 meters.
Lots of Tavernas not far away and as you are slightly up the hill it is less of a walk to more Tavernas in Vlachata (still classed as Lourdas by Tour operators).
So your villa is ideally placed for whichever direction you decide to spend the evening in.
John :-)
