We are of to skala on the 5th May, can anyone tell me the nearest town, village? and can we walk there, also can it be done along the beach?
Thanks, one giddy lady, who booked this for her husband!!

    Hi Molly,
I'm no expert on Skala, Lourdas is my patch. Hollie is the Skala buff.
We go there of course, you must have a drink in Nero, owned by a board member on here.
You can walk to Katelios (hope you like walking!) Do rent a car, even if just for a day or so, and see this beautiful Island. We go on the 10th.
Enjoy, someone will answer more fully soon. xx

Did you see my reply under Marietta Apartments?
    I have pasted it here:

*Another good walk is along the coast to Katelios. Take some decent footwear with you as you will have to scramble over rocks in a few places, but most of the way it is along the beach. Incidently, Mounda bay has some of the best sand on the island. If the water taxi is operating this year you could do a one way walk and return by water taxi. Last year it did a regular service between Katelios, Skala and Poros.*

If you have Google Earth on your computer you will get a better idea of villages, distances and the general geography of the island if you do some browsing.

This is a great walk Molly, Jamie Mac and myself did this walk a few years ago and walked the whole distance to Katelios and back. It took around 4 hours in total (including the refreshment stop!)
The view as you come around the headland is stunning so take your camera!
If it is hot, a dip in the sea off Mounda is a must. It has some of the best swimming on the island in my opinion!

    Other good walks
Seen lots of people walking up to Old Skala over the years although personally now the place is developed its not the same but the views are still good and the new taverna must be a great oasis if doing the trip in the heat of Summer it i remember correctly by the old altar and big eucalyptos is a path which leads back down in to Skala coming out on the Ratzakli road.
