Caravanning!

Well, i have to say that after owning our first caravan for just over a year now that i absolutely adore caravanning!
It is something that i would never have thought i would do in a million years but after the initial appprehension of towing and manouvering in restricted spaces with 23ft of trailer on the back of the car, i have taken to it like a duck to water!
After an initial slow start to our first season because of the rota i was working on, we have managed to get away quite a few times.
We have used it four times at weekend functions with the rescue charity i am involved with, had two wekends on a small farm site in the middle of nowhere, a weekend in the wilds of border country looking up at the snow on Carter Bar, a weekend in Thirsk followed by a week just outside Rothbury. We had a week at Rosedale Abbey in North Yorkshire and a couple of long weekends at Powburn in north Northumberland. Most recently, we have had a week just outside Kendal in the lake district which was heaven.
It has been great because in most cases we have taken all of our animals with us....yes, six dogs and two cats! That alone has saved us a forune in kennel fees. It cost us almost £1,500 to kennel them all when we went on our cruise last January!
I really don't think we could have been away as much if we hadn't bought the caravan and i reckon the saving on kennel fees has almost paid for it!
Obviously, there will be some occasions where we will put some of them in Kennels. You can't really go sightseeing with six mad springers in tow! but at the moment it is nice just to get away for a weekend when we feel like it.
We have had some experiences while out there so i will add to this over time.

Nice to hear you are enjoying it John. My parents had two caravans both static in New Quay, Wales in the 70's, we went every holiday for years and long weekends, In the 80's I purchased a trailer tent (4 berth) it was ideal for those long weekends and not as awkward as a van, though I do have an HGV. We drove to Kefalonia twice and was thinking of getting a motor-home to do it more often but, there are only two sites on Kef and it is as costly as a nights hotel so we gave up on the idea, for now.
